This route starts out flat between Denver and Ft. Collins, but then you hit the wide open hills and twisties of north central Colorado before hitting Laramie for gas. Then you jump on I-80 for a mile or so and take the Snowy Range Road exit (only open from Memorial Day until Labor Day). This is one of the prettiest rides you'll ever take, as it takes you up and over Medicine Bow Peak (11,000ft). Roll on in to Saratoga WY, an old turn of the century town, and have a beer and a burger at the Hotel Wolf. Maybe stay the night, or press on home if you feel good. Drop down into Walden, CO, then down Highway 9 to Silverthorne. Finish the trip into Denver however you like. 70 is quickest, but you can take a scenic trip up 40 through Winter Park, through Rocky Mtn National Park, over Trail Ridge Road, and into Estes Park - then come back to Denver. Great weekend trip!
