This route will take you by the state capital building in downtown Columbia then through some of the older high end neighborhood areas along Forest Drive. Not real scenic along SC 12 and watch for deer early or late in the day. When coming through Camden, Springdale Drive takes you past Springdale Race course, home to the Carolina Cup Steeplechase horse race. Flat Rock road to Heath Springs is a nice path through farm and forest. Once again watch for four legged critters. Old Stonesboro Rd from Heath Springs to Liberty Hill has rocky outcroppings scattered endlessly throughout the woods. Hence the name of the road I suppose. Lots of history apparently surrounding Liberty Hill. Check out the beautiful old mansion on the west side of Hwy.97 just after making the turn north. Hwy 97 is a nice little twisty road up to where it meets Hwy 200 near the Fishing Creek reservoir on the Catawba River. Once turning onto 200 you can side step onto 21 north to get a peek at the reservoir itself. Hwy 200 to Winnsboro and from there 213 to Jenkinsville has nice curves and very scenic farm/forested land. Then return back down Hwy 176 to Ballentine and across Lake Murray Dam to Lexington.
