Here's the scoop - this is a 1st - 2nd gear ride most of the way with heavy switchbacks (not just twisties) starting that the sign that warns of dangerous curves next 7 miles! The road literally ends at the NC state line where it intersects the Applachian Trail head. This is not I have it routed to take you back to 32/321, but you can go into NC, but the road is loose gravel and loaded with switchbacks/rain gulleys for 2.5 miles - at the paved intersection, you can continue for another 15 miles of gravel to National Park Road or turn left with only 1 mile of gravel, then chip and tar alongside the Pigeon River (cool view of the Hydro Plant and some great kayaking water) to I-40. By no means do I recommend this road for novice riders or folks who think they're indestructable - if you get into trouble on this road - you're in a world of hurt as my cellphone did not have a signal and there's no way to get a lifeflight chopper in.Where the road ends at the NC state line, the AT is directly in front of you (signage is marking trail) and on the south side of the road up the enbankment is a state line marker for NC dated 1821...really cool!Feel free to email me if you want more details!CajunDude
