This weekend a trip was planned to tour Ft Griffin, Fort Phantom Hill, and Fort Chadbourne. A group of about 15 riders met at the ranch by Graham for the first night for a get together and talk bikes. Saturday morning we rode over to the Hilltop Cafe and had breakfast at Eliasville. We then headed for Fort Griffin. The Fort has history and a few buildings, the center has some good articles about the time. We then headed over to Fort Phantam Hill. There isn't a lot there, a few standing chimneys and such. We stopped for lunch in Abilene and then over to Fort Chadbourne. The place is amazing to me. The history that is recorded and the center has all kinds of things to view. They actually had a small cannon that came from Vicksburg. Two weekends back to back with a little bit of history tied together. The history and the amazing gun collection from the era was over the top for me.They take you on a short rideto see some of the buildings. The best attraction is the center with the historical artifacts and the gun collection. You get to see a short film on the era and some of the history is outlined. Of the 3 forts we visited, this one is a must see in my book. After a couple of hours at Fort Chadbourne we headed back to Possum Holler on PK lake for supper and back to the ranch. The route may not be as exactly the route we took but close. We took several roads and some gravel roads. On this ride I took the Vstrom.
