Tucson AZ to Kitt Peak National Observatory

A little run from Tucson out Rt 86 to Kitt Peak National Observatory.



Nice easy day ride. Pack a lunch as the picnic area is really nice and vending s very limited in this area. You will have feathered friends visit for lunch. The bluebirds can steal food from you while you eat. The large raven is more a clean up after you leave type bird.





We road this 26 December, it was cool up on top as you are at 6700 feet so have the saddle bags packed with a sweatshirt and fingered gloves.
The new solar viewing telescope is available in response to so many people asking to see through a telescope while up at the site. It was really interesting and the astronomer putting on the viewing was excellent at explaining things.




There is a very large assortment of telescopes at the observatory, you can pay about $7.00 for tours of them. Really interesting information on the tours, but you can also grab a map and do the tour yourself for free. Although it is harder to get answers to questions on the free tour. Plus for $7 why not support the program and have the answers!









A very nice ride up and a great way to spend an easy day without the long high speed road times! From Tucson to Kitt Peak is an easy 45 minute drive... lunch on top, look at the equipment, the sun and the view and then head back to Tucson in time for happy hour at the local watering hole!
