This is one leg of a trip out west from Fl. in July 2006. We had spent part of the day before jumping between I-40 & Historic Route 66. We spent the night in Ammarillo after doing the Cadillac Ranch. We headed to Tucumcari N.M., only because I have always liked the name. Heading north on SR 104, was mainly just to get to Las Vegas, NM, once again only because of the name. When riding SR 104, first thing you will notice is NOTHING! But if you like rolling hills thru a desert like setting, it can be beautifull.

About 35 miles north of Tucumcari, I stopped at a little store. I had noticed right before it a sign for a dam. People in the store said 'you gotta go out and see the dam'. My only thought was 'where the hell is the water for the dam'? WOW! What a gorgeous place. It's called Conchas Lake State Park. The palce is incredible, 60 miles of shore line around the lake and dam. It is a definate do not miss.

SR 104 in the beginning was just a road between two city's, but as it sometimes happens, ended up being a road you want to share with others!

In Las Vegas we take SR 518 thru Santa Fe National Forest, passing many more lakes and historical areas....on to Taos, where we take US 64 towards Colorado. US 84 up to Pagosa Springs...we are pushing today and I am wishing we had a little more time to spend on these roads, we are passing a lot of historical areas and not getting to spend time in the towns....next time...great roads!

US 160 to Durange, US 550 (Million Dollar Highway) 105 miles to Montrose. Also being joined by San Juan Skyway to Ridgway. These names should tell you something about the roads!!!

In Montrose We take US 50 to Delta. Here you take SR 65 as part of the Grand Mesa Scenic Hwy.

We rode this in one day, because we had spent so much time being a tourist the day before, but I would suggest two days along this part of our ride!! LOTS TO SEE THAT WE DIDN'T!!!!
