The ride begins near Palmdale, FL at US27 and CR-17. The intersection is 7.4 miles north of the light at SR29 and US27. There is a blue and yellow CR-17 sign marking the turn posted on US27. Begin by heading west on CR17 (aka Detjens Dairy Road). CR-17 roughly parallels US27 and there is very little traffic on this section. The road is somewhat narrow but in adaquate condition. You will come to a stop sign (T-intersection) at CR-731, head west. You will make a right turn in 2.4 miles, a small white church on the right will mark this intersection as well as a blue/yellow CR-17 sign. Continuing north on CR-17 you will travel on a recently paved road with sweeping curves and rolling hills (yes Florida does have a few hills). Although there is little traffic use caution as there are several driveways and a railroad crossing where you should pay close attention. You will approach your 2nd stop sign at SR70 where you head west. While at the stop sign check your odometer as you will want to turn in 2.3 miles onto Placid View Drive, marked only with a typical green/white street sign. Heading north on Placid View Drive you pass through a straight section of road bordered by scrub oaks and Palmetto, however in a few miles you will see Lake Placid (the lake not the town) on your right. There is a park and boat ramp that makes for a nice stop. Continuing north on Placid View Drive you have a short but fun section of curves and hills, often there is traffic on this section. At the base of the hilly section Placid View Drive become Lake Drive. This will lead to the old downtown section of the town of Lake Placid via Main Street. Heading north on Main St the is a decent restaurant on your left, Main Street America. This is a good breakfast or lunch stop. While in Lake Placid take some time to walk or ride through town. Lake Placid is known as the "town of murals." The murals are painted on the sides of buildings throughout town reflecting it's history and commerce.
After your visit in downtown Lake Placid continue north on Main Street where you will pass along the easterly shore of Lake June. In a short distance you will encounter a stop sign at Lake June Road marking the end of the ride. The next section of a really good ride is posted by KAWASKIC14 which takes you along the northerly shoreline of Lake June and past the Henscratch Winery into Sebring. Ride safe and enjoy! -JEP-
