This is a great was to access the Wallowa mountains of NE Oregon and gives you options into Hell's Canyon. La Grande and Baker City are excellent towns (small cities) with lots of motel options.Joseph is an excellent location to base for other day rides in the area. Route NF39 is about as twisty as a road can get...for a long way. While you can do this in one day it's much more fun to spend a weekend in the area....or longer.

This is a motorcycle ride in the state of Oregon. This motorcycle route has 9 scenery characteristics and other road conditions to help you plan your road trip. This motorcycle map was created by buz13 in April. Click here to see other Motorcycle Roads by buz13

I split the ride into two days. The first day I rode from Baker City to Enterprise. The roads are well maintained, but are very narrow and twisty at times. South of Joesph there was a fair amount of traffic in August. There were many wayside stops with fantastic views. Stopped for the day in Enterprise, stayed a a nice clean motel and found an excellent Mexican restaurant for dinner. Walked most all of the streets in town for calling it a night. The next day I traveled West to La Grande. The highway follows along the Grand Ronde River for many miles. I'm sure there is good fishing in that river, not to mention the many beautiful turnouts to stop and enjoy the views. There was some road repair being done between Enterprise and La Grande, but the stops were short and the scenery pleasant.
