I started this ride at the Capital building in downtown Columbia, SC. This old Capital building is a great place to see. It's great that the people of South Carolina has keep this great piece of history, it's like looking back in time. You head north on Main Street going through downtown where you will turn to the left on to Monticello (Rt 215). From this point north it you will see fewer cars and people along this route. There was times that I did not see any another vehicles for miles.

You will being following along Rt. 215 approaching Monticello Reservoir on your left which is great view to slow down and enjoy. All at once here this big southern style house with the reservoir in the background and you would think that you where in 'Gone With The Wind'. You almost what to look around just to back sure that the Union soldiers weren't following you.

Rt 18 north surprised me on how nice this road was to ride. Being from the North Carolina side of this road, I enjoyed how the South Carolina section was so hilly and twisted along for miles. I followed Rt 18 in to Gaffney, SC where I picked up SC 11 and cut through the farm lands to 150 which takes me back into Boiling Springs, NC.

This route was better than I had planned when was looking at the map trying to avoid Interstates to get home.

You can use this route along with some other routes I have posted to continue north to Chimney Rock/ Lake Lure, Asheville, or Black Mountain without Interstates.
